wow! happy to see someone here that has moved beyond group think. yay! there are more than two parties, more than two candidates up for election, and most certainly neither of the top two parties would be the best choice for many reasons. i certainly wish you had blogged this weeks ago so people had more time to ponder this. i am proud to say, i absentee ballot voted bob barr two weeks ago! his health care reform plan is excellent and is the only thing that will ever work. bob is intelligent and if he doesn't get it this time around, we'll have to work on the next election.

I like your reasoned take on all of this. I have a suggestion and a comment.

First, why wait until the evening before the election to post something so thoughtful? Not everyone reading this reads your blog. I would figure your commentary to be far more effective if you posted it a couple of weeks ago.

I think the GOP has lost its way. It is no longer the party of limited government and leaving the citizenry alone to prosper. In my view the party has been hijacked by a few who wish to force-feed the unthinking a steady diet of gay marriage, abortion and terrorists who hide under your bed. It’s really rather pathetic that everything has degenerated to this don’t you think?

The Republican Party may just get what it deserves – a stint of wandering in the wilderness.

We’ll know for sure tomorrow.

I can't believe some people are against bringing in a Dave & Busters in to Tosa. They obviously have never been to one. It is nothing like a Chuck-E-Cheeze. It much more upscale, well appointed, clean, and targeted at adults. That means that all the knuckle heads that cause problems at Mayfair and Denny's late and night won't even be able to get in in the evening because of age limits.

Also since when can an under-utilized stretch of 6 lane highway not handle businesses of this size? Between Watertown Plank and the DSW there is the post office, a small office building, Biggs, and a couple of empty car dealerships. Hardly an already overcrowded stretch. Have any of these aldermen with objections ever driven Bluemound Rd. in Brookfield or HWY 100 north of North Ave? These stretches can handle the traffic just fine with business drawing more than the Pick and Save and D&B's will.

Finally, most of the people going there are going to be going to eat and hang out friends for a while. It is not a place people will go to get drunk. It is not a typical Wisconsin bar kind of place. In other places in the country that have D&B's, they are usually located in the nicer, more upscale communities. I would like to think Tosa fits that profile.

Say no to d&b! They were right to deny it, I think alot of you are really blind to the crime on mayfair rd. Of course the police chief is going to say he can handle it, if he couldnt handle it would he really have a job? Have any of you actually driven by dennys at night? Why do you think theres always police parked out in the front of mayfair mall? Everything south of mayfair has only seen minimal problems now, Im sure if a business capable of housing 2000 drunk people on a weekend is really just going to be quiet right? My kids ride there bikes on the street and go to school just blocks from that area. Let alone bringing are home values down, who wants to live in area where they have to worry about drunks causing problems, we have enough problems with the economy already do you honestly thinks its going to remain a parking lot on the busiest corner in the state? I dont think so!

I was excited to hear about the possibility of a D&B coming to Tosa. I have been there a couple times outside of Charlotte and enjoyed it bery much. I also understand the concern surrounding safety, however, if the police chief gave his approval then we should take his opinion under consideration. That all being said I have another idea.

I am sure this is much easier said than done but I would like to see more businesses located in Tosa that are not Entertainment related. The Research Park on Watertown Plnk Rd is, in my opinion, the way to go. It provides many well paying jobs, better than a Dave & Busters, and also contributes the prestige of the city. By Prestige I mean that many I people I know relate Wauwatosa with great companies such as Harley Davidson, Briggs & Stratton, and GE Healthcare (to some extent) to name a few. Yes, they also relate us with Mayfair and that is great as well. I just hope that every effort is being made to utilize the Mayfair corridor (and the area along Burleigh between Mayfair and Hwy 45) to best long-term use of the city. I am sure other land-locked communities would love to have this opportunity to re-develope such large swathes of land with the visibility that those areas provide.

When it comes to traffic, I think no matter what type of business goes in there, you are going to have concerns. You're replacing a car dealership, which although parked hundreds of cars, doesn't have regular traffic going in an out. Any type of major store which would fill that space, or large restaurant is going to increase traffic. Many other segments of Hwy 100 in other cities have more business along the road, but have similar engineering, and seem to handle it well.

As for concerns over policing, when the *Chief of Police* himself is OK with the business going in, after visiting other locations, that does a lot to allay my fears over crime issues. As for crime at Mayfair... how's that been going? I understand that people loved to talk about Mayfair crime when it was a slow news day, but I haven't heard word one in the news lately about Mayfair. That is a good thing, but we shouldn't let panic prevent business from taking hold.

I think your accusations on a "protectionist racket for businesses" is pretty naive to say the least. Mayfair road is LOADED with restaurants one more wont make a difference, but this isnt a restaurant it is a Chuck E Cheese with Alcohol, do a quick google search and you'll see that cops were called more than 81 times there just this year. You dont state all the facts in your comments, and with the problems at Dennys around the corner and Mayfair Mall lets form another crime haven!!

Both of those alders have expressed concern about problems of traffic on Mayfair Road with businesses that have higher traffic than the previous tenants had. Whether you come to the same conclusion they do or not, it's certainly a legitimate concern. Mayfair Road needs some serious re-engineering if it's going to accommodate more busy businesses.

Great blog. As a conservative, I am happy to read others write about conservative issues. There are a bit too many blogs on Tosa Now about kids, and spiders, and roofers etc. It's good to read about some real issues every now and again. Please keep it up.

My next door neighbor, an 86 year old widow, fell for it last summer. Her sign is nice, but she really felt like she HAD to buy it. I am not sure she would have gotten it if someone would have explained to her that it was not an official notice.

This sounds like a scam. The police might be interested, especially if they're posting these notices on people's doors.

The ad, however deceptive it may be, does have a point. I used to have to find specific addresses in a former line of work, and it isn't easy - especially at night.

I spent the holiday in Elm Grove with some friends. That is a very nice park. Their beautiful swimming pool is in the heart of the park. It is very easy to spend the day there moving back and forth from the pool to the picnic area. I think Tosa is making a big mistake in possibly rebuilding the pool at Hoyt Park. The pool will be over a mile from Hart Park. This makes no sense at all (except for the fact that the lefties want it on county land vs city land- I think the last year the pool was open I was there and had the pleasure of sitting next to a lady who was shaving her legs).

There is plenty of space to put it (if the money is found) in Hart Park. I think we could give up the skate board park space as an even trade.
