That's Flood Control?

Good thing the MMSD spent all those millions of dollars working on the Menomonee River near Hart Park huh?  Oh wait... maybe not.  So when is that flood control supposed to kick in again?

Hey Nick...

Do you know if the interceptor pipe/tunnel has been constructed between Honey Creek and the retention basins?

Whatdaya think about the city giving us free sand?

Are we supposed to be building our own personal bunkers or something?

Brilliant emergency management, eh?

Too bad I'm over my child-rearing days - otherwise I'd be constructing a sandbox today.

I'm bummed because over Memorial weekend, I built my daughter a sandbox and spent $50 on sand.  I wasn't banking on a flood.

I imagine the flooding would have been much much worse without the Hart Park project so the project did help.  However, I do think MMSD oversells the effectiveness of these projects (to include the deep tunnel)....Its lot easier to justify the cost by saying it will contain all but a 100-year rain event instead of a 10-year rain event.

The larger question is why do we continue to act surprised that flooding happens in flood plains?

This flooding problem can’t be blamed solely on MMSD.  If you are talking about the sewage backing up that has more to do with problems with the city sewer line.  A group of residents started a website called www.wauwatosaflooding.com more info is on there.
