I became a regular donor after seeing a blood drive and decided on the spur of the moment to finally "git 'er done". Regular donors allow the blood center to better plan on their inventories. Imagine not knowing if enough blood will be available for surgeries or in my case years ago, after a nasty accident?

Many people believe that there are plenty of "other" people to keep the refrigerators filled with the different types of blood, but the fact is that many willing donors are not able to donate. The standards for healthy blood are very high along with concern for the donors themselves. Many times I've been refused due to a slightly low iron level. As I wait for my turn to come up I will also hear many people being refused to donate due to low iron. We're told to enjoy a steak dinner and come back in a day or two. I'm my case I'll take iron supplements.

So people, please, your donation of blood is needed because, "Many are called, few are chosen". Seems like I heard that once one Sunday...

I was in line to register since moving from SW Waukesha last year and I noted Brien helping a nice, elderly lady that just voted by calling a cab for her with his own cell phone and arranging for them to meet her outside the polls. That was above and beyond Brien, nicely done.

Brien, you should find this interesting that my subdivision's theme is "explorers" since you are somewhat one yourself. There's Loftus, Marin, Langlade, LaSalle, Raddison, Cortez, Joliet, DeSoto, Jonathan, Marquette, Nicolet, Andrae, Guerin, Piccard, Balboa, Magellan and the street I live on, Menard. Am I right?

Brien, I shop at P&S and was initially very against the automated check outs. My thinking was that this was another job that was being replaced by machines. When I was in high school, I spent a couple of years working at P&S in Oak Creek as a bagger/cart person/sweeper/etc. , which falls under the corporate-speak distinction of Utility Clerk, in case you didn't know. When I was a bagger, I had a good relationship with a number of the clerks, so it was nice to have someone to chat with, if only for a bit. Anyways, these days when I go shopping, I always marvel at some of the things that the clerks say to me. Maybe this is just because I am a younger guy and they feel I can relate and all, but honestly, I don't want to hear how they are tired or how today isn't going well. I am usually a live and let live kind of guy, but I have noticed that increasingly, young employees feel that they can tell me exactly what they are thinking or how they are feeling that day. I remember that when I did the job, I was constantly polite, and regardless if it was a good day or not, I'd never tell a customer. Anyways, this is just something I've noticed and it frustrates me...

Steve: the Advantage Cards are free, I believe... you just have to sign up at the counter.

Oh, you mean the place where if you don't have a preferred customer card your money isn't as good as one who does? I don't care if anyone there knows my name. I just want to be treated as fairly as the next person when I check out. Pick and Save doesn't. They are also a big part of the reason that the city has lost Sentry stores downtown and on West Moreland, which many of us could walk to for a bag or two of groceries. Sorry to disagree with you Brien but in this case Pick and Save is part of the problem rather than the solution.
