Most people I know are thoroughly disgusted with the Milwaukee Journal's liberal bias. One woman canceled her paper after the Journal failed to quote Governor Palin accurately in a headline...it was her last straw.

Now the paper asks, do you still want to receive the TV Cue section on Sundays?

Want to still receive it? That is one of the reasons we get the paper! ;-) Oh, the Sunday ads are good too. (The articles are online after all and I hate the piles of newspaper that gather in the house.)

Actually, I find so little worth watching on TV these days, I think I could do without the TV Cue. (However, I am outvoted.)

People who don't have cable TV or who are not computer savvy, use the TV section.

If the TV Cue on Sunday is important to you, you can either give them a call on the TV Cue hotline 24 hours a day at 1-866-616-5072, or register online.  

REMEMBER: IF YOU DON"T DO ANYTHING, YOU WILL NOT GET A TV CUE SECTION BEGINNING NOVEMBER 16th.

Family Research Council brought this very disturbing news to my attention: Choice Hotels' Quality Inn in Maple Shade, New Jersey and the Clarion Hotel in Cherry Hill, New Jersey are offering a room discount up to $50 to women who are in the process of having an abortion. From Family Research Council:  

According to volunteers from the area's [New Jersey's] "40 Days for Life" campaign, many of the patients leaving the Cherry Hill clinic are "alone, crying, and in extreme pain." After their digoxin injections, these mothers are sent home or to area hotels to wait for their babies to die. The next day, they return to the clinic to deliver their dead children.

Do these area inns really want to facilitate the killing process? And, from a legal standpoint, are they prepared to incur the liability if any medical complications arise? Unfortunately, the reason these women need a place to stay is because the clinics don't care enough about their health to monitor them overnight, despite the medical risks. That should be a clear signal to these hotels that local abortionists are harming women.

Choice Hotels International is the parent organization for both Quality Inns and Clarion Hotels. My family uses the hotel chain as overnight stops when traveling. The individual hotels are owned and run by different owners, but each hotel is still part of the Choice Hotels corporation. I did email corporate headquarters with my concerns over this practice and I will probably call them as well.  

I have no plans to visit New Jersey, but the description of what is going on in these two hotels is disquieting. It is usually best not to know too much about what goes on in a hotel room. My husband and I once surprised the manager and gift store clerk when checking into our room in Kentucky. Nope, didn't want that room. But that experience pales in comparison to a girl waiting for her baby to die in a hotel room.

I'm thinking that if enough people contact Choice Hotel headquarters, the 2 New Jersey franchises may change their discount policy. After all, public pressure made McDonald's reconsider their pro-gay support.

I almost missed this, but thanks to a reader, here it is: A group of pro 4K residents will be making an appeal to the school board this Tuesday during the Citizen's Forum time--first on the agenda.

My reader had this to say about the pro 4K group:

...Seems as though they believe that the old 'wear em down one request at a time' philosophy will work on the board as well as it works on the taxpayers.

...I was reminded of Tom Gehl's comment about where the taxpayers went the last time the proposal came up, forcing him to face an [emotionally charged crowd]** alone.

My reader then suggested a counter "No Way 4K" cheering section at the meeting, to give the board a little moral support.

Last fall, I was there when they made that difficult decision in discontinuing Elmbrook's 4K program. They made that tough choice because there was no proof that 4K made a long term academic improvement.

True, 4K will add money to the school district's budget, but it will also add more tax burden to Elmbrook taxpayers. We cannot afford to add programs that do not deliver real results. 4K shows no long lasting academic improvement, therefore it is a luxury. Right now is the time to tighten our belt, not indulge in self serving programs.

We will already see higher property tax bills because that magical 2% growth (projected by the experts) the referendum tax calculations were based on has not materialized.

We did not even hit 1% growth this year, and that was a figure from June, when our market was stronger. From Fairly Conservative, Brookfield assessed growth less than 1%: (My emphasis)

The Board of Review met this morning and assessed property values in the City of Brookfield only grew 0.987% to $6,300,693,600.

This low number has enormous implications for taxpayers who will be taxed above that growth according to state caps. Low growth also affects the estimates used for the Elmbrook referendum as well as the failing TIF district in our community.

Come to the School Board meeting on Tuesday to show your support for the board's decision to discontinue 4K. (Maybe I could make the Citizen Forum and still catch most of the Creation Science speaker?) If you plan on speaking, make your comments short (2 minutes) and please be polite.

Superintendent Matt Gibson and some of the board are looking at ways to increase their budget through "revenue enhancers." 4K would do that, but at an added expense to the taxpayer. Let's not even let them think about flirting with 4K** again! 

*I could not verify Tom Gehl's original words. This conveys the same meaning. Tom was one among 4 who voted the measure down: Meg Wartman, Patrick Murphy, and Glen Allgaier.

**I don't want to make more of this flirtation than it was: just a mention. But often "mentions" are made to test the waters of acceptance or opposition.

The Supreme Court ended their term on a high note today. They just ruled, 5-4, that individuals have the right to bear arms. The D.C. gun ban has been struck down. (Ginsberg, Breyer, Stevens, Souter dissenting)

The 32 year D.C. gun ban was ruled as being incompatible with the 2nd amendment. It in essence leaves all gun rights intact. (H/T Jay Weber announcement)

I am greatly relieved. Although I don't think everyone needs to own a gun, I certainly believe the 2nd amendment intended that people have the right to own guns. Back then, every household probably had a gun if they could afford one. A gun was necessary for protection and hunting. To interpret the 2nd amendment as being only for the militia was ludicrous.

Think elections don't matter? Consider if there was just one more liberal justice, our 2nd amendment rights would have just been taken away.

I started boycotting Heinz ketchup* during the Kerry campaign. I never went back. I did not want to support a company that was tied to an agenda contrary to my beliefs if I could help it. But now THIS!

Are you ready for TV commercials that push homosexual families as being normal? Heinz is currently running this ad in England.  Watch the ad.  I know there are homosexual families out there, but please don't try to push that this is normal.

I cannot in good conscience support such a company. I vote with my pocketbook. No more Heinz anything--ever.

The Heinz Corporation was started by Henry John Heinz, a Christian, in 1869. The Heinz name stood for wholesomeness. "Heinz broke with most of the food industry in his ardent support of the Pure Food and Drug Act, and his company was one of the first to open its doors for "public tours", to reassure customers that his products were produced under sanitary conditions."  What a sad turn of events this ad campaign is--the Heinz name now standing for homosexuals.
