This report was covered in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Sunday issue on Page 4A.

There will be no increases because inflation is expected to be low due to economic downturn and a decline in energy prices.

However other factors may increase costs for some Social Security recipients, Higher priced prescription drug premium coverage in Part D Medicare. Or your income may be too high and other Medicare premiums may increase too.

Spending on Social Security and Medicare totaled more than one Trillion Dollars last year. This is more than 1/3 of the total Federal Budget.

It is time for local and State Governments to recognize the plight that the unemployed and older Americans face and reign cost of Government at all levels.

Aldermen Ken Harenda and Dave Ament reelected to important positions.

New Berlin Common Council Meeting, Tuesday April 28, 2009

The New Berlin Common Council reelected Ken Harenda to be the Common Council President for the sixth time.

Dave Ament was reelected to the Planning Commission where he has served since 2001.

Congratulations to both of them.

Our city continues to be well served.

Thank you to Jennifer Eitel and Keith Heun

NBCRG
and a majority of New Berlin Voters, would like to thank Jennifer
Eitel and Keith Heun For their many years of service on the New
Berlin School Board.

Both
decided last year that other people deserve a chance to serve and
they decided not to seek another three year term,

Their
accomplishments included finishing remodeling New Berlin West and
consolidating New Berlin Center and Prospect Hill elementary schools
into the new Ronald Reagan School.

This
was done without asking for divisive referendums while maintaining
the other facilities and changing curriculum as needed to reflect the difficult times that
confront our children.

It
was also accomplished while lowering the overall costs on individual property
tax bills for the past several years.

We
also welcome Peggy LaSalle and Susan Manley to the School Board, and
wish them “Good Luck” and 'Best Wishes”.

The provision would require that anyone who offers Day Care help to a person in their home, must be registered with the State of Wisconsin and must be a member of an approved organization. (Whatever that is) This will drastically raise the cost of care and possibly could affect your plans to take care of your own relatives.

Another item is the Governor's plan to raise the tax on Nursing Home beds from the present $75 to a projected $150. All these changes to the system will drive up the cost of health care to the people who live on fixed incomes who are trying to survive this recession. Then we have the proposed tax on regular hospital beds so we can get more money from the Feds who don't have any money with this stimulus nightmare that is moving on.

Something else to think about.

How about High Speed rail between Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison and on to Saint Paul, maybe by way of Green Bay. Only cost a couple hundred million more dollars. No one has done any studies that show if ridership would support that system.

Several years ago the Wisconsin Southern Railroad tried a test program of passenger service between McHenry IL and Janesville, WI. I round trip per day. Average ridership was 2or 3 people. That was canceled quickly.

Of course the money must come from somewhere to pay for the great increase in state spending and you are the cash cow.

We peasants have no place to go for help. We lost 40 % of our investments already. Now Uncle Jim will take some more.

Happy Days are here again!

Call your state senators and assembly people and let them know what you really think of these plans.

Mr Patrick Reed, Troop 41 BSA, Eagle Scout and US Navy Persian Gulf Veteran

Mr Patrick Reed, an Eagle Scout of Troop 41 BSA Prospect Hill School, and US Navy Persian Gulf Veteran, died on a California highway as a result of his motorcycle hitting a car going in the opposite direction which had crossed over the center line.

Mr Reed was wearing his helmet, was not speeding and was obeying all the safety rules, according to a doctor who was traveling behind him and who witnessed the accident.

Mr Reed was an Eagle Scout who attended Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, New Mexico and also several sessions at the BSA Sea Base in Florida. He also attended Camp Long Lake, Dundee, Wisconsin with his father Henry Reed, who was his Scoutmaster.

After graduation from high school he joined the US Navy and served in the Persian Gulf. After leaving the navy he served in several foreign countries as a computer security specialist. At the time of his death Mr. Reed was employed by Seque Technologies, at the US Marine Base at Twenty Nine Palms, California.

Patrick Reed was always ready to help with any task or skill that any Scout needed to learn. Alderman Poshepny had changed his vote regarding Ordinance 2404, from "abstain" to "approve" after the vote was taken on January 27. His vote to "approve" gave him the right to ask for a reconsideration of ordinance 2404 and he has asked for that reconsideration.

Ordinance 2404 is necessary to bring New Berlin into compliance with Wisconsin State Law, in regard to setting the salary of the next mayor who will be elected On April 7, 2009

CERT training in New Berlin

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) created by the Citizen's Corps Readiness Initiative, a part of the Department of Homeland Security, held a training course this week-end at the Public Safety building, for 36 residents of New Berlin who volunteered for the 20 hour class. This was a very interesting course and many former gradautes of the New Berlin Citizens Academy were in attendance.

The instructors were Linda Botts, Coordinator of COAD, Waukesha County

Captain Bruce Koehler, of Ozaukee County Emergency Management Hazardous Material Team,

Fire Lieutenant Gregory Marris, who is the Assistant hazardous Materials Director of the Milwaukee Fire Department

After the CERT training program was introduced, the following items were covered with extensive time for "hands on training". The nine items that were covered were; Disaster preparedness, Fire safety, 2 sessions of Disaster medical operations, Light search and rescue operations, CERT organization, Disaster psychology, Terrorism and CERT, and this was followed by a Course review and disaster simulation.

The attendees expressed a hope that we never have a disaster happen in New Berlin or the surrounding area. In the event that something does happen, we hope that that the fire and police department remember that we have been trained and are willing to contribute to the common good.

If you are interested in participating in the CERT program please contact;

Linda Botts, 262 446 5077 e mail Lbotts@waukeshacounty.gov

Merry Christmas

We wish all our readers and citizens of New Berlin, the state of Wisconsin and everyone else a very Merry christmas and a Prosperous New year.

As FDR stated " The only thing we have to fear is fear itself".

We know that there are cycles in economics and in Global warming, and right now it looks like we are in a real cooling cycle in each.

It is time to stop emphasizing the negatives and realize that we are the most blessed people on earth to live in a free country, where we can do as we please without asking permission of anyone.

We all have enough to eat or know where we can find it. We can gripe about our taxes and elect people who share our views. We know that in a few short years we can vote to replace people that ignore what they said they would do to get elected.

This is my personal opinion

New Berlin 2009 Property Tax down from 2008

Now that you have received your 2009 New Berlin property tax bills...

How about that, it is lower than last years'.

That's right! Lower school property taxes have more than offset the increases in the City, County, State of Wisconsin and Waukesha County Technical College portions of your tax bill.

We actually received property tax relief !

It is very important to maintain this tradition of tight budgetary controls, by continuing to elect school board members that recognize that "Throwing Money" at a problem, or passing a tax increase referendum, is not necessary to provide a good education for all.

We encourage possible candidates to run for office by picking up an election package at the New Berlin School district office at Eisenhower High School on Sunny Slope Road. The deadline to return the form is 5:00pm January 6, 2009

At this time 5 people have indicated an interest in the mayoral contest.

NBCRG askes Common Council to reject Planning Commission report on Utility Service Area.

To New Berlin Common Council, Re: Agenda item on December 9, 2008

NBCRG, New Berlin Citizens for Responsible Government are on record to ask the Common Council to reject the report of the December 1, 2008, Planning Commission in regard to the New Berlin Utility Service Area.

The Common Council requested that the west boundary line be fixed along Calhoun Road from Greenfield to Beloit Road and from that point generally in a southeast direction to the City line.

The Planning Commission approved that line AFTER they ADDED a number of properties west of that boundary line.

The Planning Commission also REJECTED a number of properties in which the owners expressed an interest to be included in the service area.

We feel that the Planning Commission in adding properties to and rejecting other properties, are ignoring the express wishes of the Council and are subjecting the City of New Berlin to lawsuits.

It is better to do it right the first time rather than opening a legal Pandora,s box.
