The New Berlin Planning Commission has scheduled a vote on a Common Council request to set the water and sewer Utility boundary at a line which roughly parallels Calhoun Road from Greenfield Avenue south to Beloit Road. From Beloit Road south, the boundary generally is in a southeast direction. The map is available for public view at city hall. The Common Council will then take up the issue at the December meeting

Assemblyman Mark Gundrum is pictured with one of his daughters as he and members of the United States Army Reserve 432 Civic Affairs Battalion, based in Green Bay, returned from a 9 month tour of duty in Iraq. We welcome them all home and thank them for their service and a job well done.

Mayor Jack Chiovatero asked for a moment of silence at the November 11, Common Council meeting in remembrance of long time residents Al Stigler and Jean Crotty. Al Stigler will be remembered as a Viet Nam War veteran who was severally wounded and overcame many obstacles to return to civilian life. He was a volunteer at Holy Apostles Catholic church School and among other honors, had a street named for him several years ago. Jean Crotty served for many years as the moderator to the New Berlin Election forum and other civic functions. NBCRG extends our deepest sympathy to their families.

On November 10 New Berlin Planning commission will have a public hearing at 6:00pm at City hall about The Common Council Proposal to set the New Berlin Urban Service Boundary at approximately Calhoun road. This would mean that sewer and city water would not be extended west of that boundary unless residents of any affected area petition the Common Council. This is what New Berlin Citizens for Responsible Government have alway requested to give the residents of this area control of extension of sewer and water, rather than have this important decision be driven by developers. On November 11 The Common Council will conduct a public hearing on the 2009 City Budget. The small increase that is currently proposed will cost the owner of a $200,000 assessed valuation home an additional $18 per year. NBCRG feels that this is a reasonable amount. The Common Council must guard against any alderman proposing additional spending because the small planned increase gives them an opportunity to spend more. Some items should be examined closely such as Park Commission for expansion and the future of Calhoun Road and 124 th Street
