The City of Wauwatosa announced Thursday that it’s has
contracted with an Illinois cat farm to purchase their excess
used cat litter. Perrfect Cats, a corporate cat farm, for years
has sold it’s excess used cat litter to local Illinois municipalities
in the winter as a way to make money from it's cat waste.
Herman Potthole, assistant purchasing manager for the city said “it a win-win
for the city and the environment. The City gets a salt-like material to
put on the roads, with less street damage, and the environment get
a sodium-free alternative”.
The common counsel approved the idea hoping to save the taxpayers
money. Alderman Vandelay said “This is just the first of many
programs which we plan on help the city save money. We also encourage
homeowners with cats to use cat litter instead of salt on their driveways.
The mayor, a well-known cat lover, was unavailable for comment.
