What would Jesus do?

I am at a quandary this Holiday season.   I have always had a real Christmas Tree.

I have taken great pleasure packing the kids up and making my yearly pilgrimage

To Steins to pick out (what my wife would say) the sorriest tree on the lot.

I receive great enjoyment, stuffing it into my compact car’s trunk (most of it sticking out the back) sawing off the bottom, trimming the lower branches, locating the totally inadequate tree stand and putting up the tree (usually on a 20 degree angle).

I hate fake trees.  I think they are gaudy.  I detest them with my entire being, but

with our planet in peril, do I cut down a tree which will add to global warming?

I think of myself as an environmentalist (even though my carbon footprint is about

size 16).

What woulda, coulda, shoulda I do?????????

What would Jesus do?

Fraley from Tosa Takes

Fear not. Cutting down a real Christmas tree will NOT add to global warming. Tree farmers, as do most farmers, take care to preserve and protect the earth. They are more closely tied to the land than we are. Eventually, a new tree will be planted to replace the 'sorry' one you purchase.

The forestry industry in North America (including mom and pop tree farmers and the big corporate entities)is keeping our forests healthy. Buy a tree. It's good for the earth.

Fraley's right, you shouldn't feel any worse about buying a real tree than you do about eating an ear of corn.  It's a crop.  It will be grown for the market, and replaced with a little seedling which will help offset global warming until it's its turn to grace someone's living room.  Fake trees, on the other hand, are a petroleum product, and use lots of energy to manufacture and ship.

Sustainable Forestry Rules!!!  Spend your holiday cash on Wisconsin-grown trees!

Thanks guys for setting me straight.  Another benefit is it's one of

the few things not "made in China"

Jesus would probably have brought home a tree that had fallen in the wind then made a piece of furniture out of it when he was through.

Family Guy, I was the same way about artificial trees, but now that we've had one for several years I can't see ever going back. Too many benefits. 5 minutes to put up: no gas used to chain saw it down or drive to get it every year. Nothing to water or worry about going up in flames. The money we save every year...
