Alderman Vandulay to run for Mayor

By Peter Hart
Wednesday, Sep 26 2007, 10:58 PM
Alderman Art Vandulay (9th district) has decided to throw his hat in the already
crowded Wauwatosa's mayorial race. Asked why he decided to run, Vandulay
said "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darn people like me"

Vandulay, who has been the 9th district's alderman for 6 years, is an engineer, who
by chance invented the "Metro" which is a portable temporary sanitary toliet.

I know how to remove waste and will do so as mayor. I will also stand for something.

Below are Vandulay's plans to make Wauwatosa a better place to live:
1. Sunset Clauses for new employees—starting with the mayor
2. Cash Free Zones on North (60th-76th & State 68th-74th)
3. Build Hoyt pool without taxpayer subsidies
4. Ban 24 hour anything
5. Make the dump free to all Wauwatosa Citizens
6. Hire more police and charge Mayfair & School District for them
7. Make Brietlow a City Park thru eminent domain
8. Ban Gun shops, Pipe shops and Check cashing places
9. Have the City pay the cost of Chopping down diseased trees
10. Have Common Counsel wear clown outfits on at least one meeting per year
11. Give the Mayor a pay cut (like Scott Walker did for the County Executive)
12. Kick out all the sexual predators (let them live in Brookfield or West Allis)
13. Give Real Estate Tax breaks for family with more that 5 kids (encourage population growth)

Most canidates only only go to 10. Vandulay goes to 13.

Vandulay plans to have a fundraiser at Pedro's Wok in October.

For What it's Worth

Here’s a suggestion for all the mayoral candidates (and the City)

Tips for reducing Employee pension health care costs

First, start with “Sunset Clauses”

Sunset Clause for new employees (Starting with the new mayor)
eliminates the benefit of paid health care upon retirement.
Milwaukee County instituted this program in 1994 and will
save the Milwaukee County millions in future health care payments.

What’s taking Wauwatosa so long?

If a future City employee isn’t offered a benefit that over 92% of private employees
aren’t offered, will the candidate be offended? Will they search for work elsewhere?
I don't think so. Will current employees be offended? The County offered current
employees 2% increase to approve the plan-they agreed.

Second, GM & their union are close to reaching an historic comprise on pension
health benefits. The General Motors will give the union a lump sum (negotiated based
on expected future payout) which the union will manage. This gives the GM
the ability to know for certain the amount of the benefit and minimize the risk of
future unanticipated increases (which has cost GM millions in the past 10 years).

Wauwatosa needs to look at the GM Model to help manage their pension health care
burden and let the union manage the fund (and let the union, not the taxpayer) take
the risk of future health care increases.

The new Mayor and Common Counsel needs to think outside the box to come up with
creative, innovative and workable solutions to cost containment.

Herzog, wanted to reduce the Counsel from 16 to 8--that would would save pennys.
The two ideas above with save $$$$$$$$

Humboldt Park Band Shell
3000 S. Howell Ave. (corner of Howell & Oklahoma)

This is a unique event featuring bands from around the globe. Spend a beautiful
afternoon listening to beautiful music.

After Saturday's music, head down to HectorFest for food & drink.

Here is more infomation on What the event is and who is performing:

Global Union is back for 2007! After receiving incredible reviews and loads of thanks and praise from the community, we've decided to bring this FREE festival of world music and culture back to Milwaukee's beautiful Humboldt Park in Bay View this September.

World Music has evolved beyond its original meaning of ethnographic field recordings into some of the most wildly creative expression in the cultural arena. Musicians no longer work exclusively within the confines of genre or nationality. Sounds, some previously unimaginable, are available in ways that are without precedent. And artists are free to mix and blend and sample these sounds into a music that can only claim "the world" as its provenance. Artists from Africa, Central Europe, Latin America, East Asia and the Middle East will travel from the far ends of the globe to Milwaukee for a two-day blow-out party that embraces individual expression and global commonality.

School Board new Zero Tolerance policy get tested

After only four days, Wauwatosa School board’s new
“Zero tolerance policy on student respect” was put to the test.
On Friday, Longfellow 7-grader Jim “jimmy” Recardo was suspended for
one day after it was learned that that he had disrespected another student.

Anita Mann, complained to her Homebase teacher Ms. Bills that
Jimmy had for the past three days completely ignored her. Anita was
almost in tears when she told Ms. Bills that “even after I wore my favorite
Abercrombie classic tank top with matching jean he still won’t even
look at me”

After hearing Anita’s story, Ms. Bills talked to the principal who, in compliance
with the Tosa School Board’s new “Zero tolerance policy on student respect” gave
Jimmy a one day suspension.

When contacted, School board member Sherry Wilson had this to say “The school
Board has been criticized recently for double digit levy increases, running deficits,
decreasing test scores & diluting neighbor schools with open enrollment kids.
We think new policies such as our "Zero Tolerance policy on student respect"
will show the community that we do care about all students not just those at Wilson.

Meanwhile Jimmy doesn’t understand why he was being suspended. Jimmy said “I
don’t even know who Anita is”

Jimmy’s parents are expected to challenge the suspension

Confession

Bless me Father Bill for I have sinned

It has been 36 years (St Bernards- 7 grade) seen I have been
to confession.

I would like to confess the following:

I have taken (from the dump) a table (wood in very good condition, wicker chair (for my daughter’s fort, a wood sun (to brighten up my daughter’s fort), a Heinekin golf bag with clubs (almost brand new left to the side), a couple of PG-13 videos (Top Gun, Dirty Dancing, ect), miscellaneous planters and a cool picture
of a Mazeratti sports car.

As penance, I will bring to the dump a Kohler Whirlpool tub,
A couple of chairs, golf clubs (right-handed) and a some PG-13 videos (Monster, The Big Chill, The Breakfast club & Dirty Dancing)

I will also say a couple of "Our Fathers & Hail Marys"
