On Wednesday I was privileged to attend the Iron Horse District (Milwaukee County Council BSA) Eagle Board of Review for Taylor Schneider & Kevin Stagl, both of Troop #111 at Whitman/West.
Having never been part of the review process before, it was quite a formal event. The purpose of the
review is to bring the scout together with a group of scout leaders to have the scout talk about their experiences in qualifying for the Eagle Scout Rank.
Both Kevin & Taylor were very prepared. Both brought 3-ring binders of their scouting histories,
including details of their Eagle projects.
Kevin's Eagle project was directing funds earned in partnership with the Wauwatosa Kiwanis
and purchasing and assembling 33 wheelchairs for the Lutheran Home here in Wauwatosa. Kevin wants to go to business school and become an entrepreneur and his project gave him valuable experience in
seeing a need, determining how to fund the need, managing people and seeing it to completion.

Taylor's Eagle project was creating a fund drive and then purchasingessential supplies for the Sojorner Truth House, a non-profit organization which offers victims of domestic violence access to shelter, safety,
support, education and advocacy to break the cycle of violence. Taylor found a worthy organization, contacted St. Joseph's church here in Wauwatosa which helped serve as a collection point, got the word out though the Newstimes & Mayfair Park newsletters and mobilized a workforce to help with the
collection of supplies and monetary gifts.
Eagle projects help the scout learn leadership and goal setting, and help the community as well.
These two young men didn't get to the rank of Eagle by just hanging around the campfire. (Actually, they did!) They earned it though hard work and leadership training (That too!). They are excellent examples for younger scouts to look up to.
The rank of Eagle is not an end, it a beginning that will give Kevin &Taylor a step up
to being the type of leaders that their generation can be proud of.
Congratulations Kevin & Taylor, you've earned it.
