The latest results of an annual study that examines patient outcomes at 5,000 hospitals across the nation show the best care was found in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The 10th annual Health Grades Hospital Quality in America Study released last week ranked the best and worst regions and states in the country for hospital care.

Here is the story with more details and the complete study.

The study is yet another perfect example of why Wisconsin doesn’t need government health care.

Wisconsin also has high health care costs. Perhaps the AMOUNT of money spent on health care results in better health care results. Most things work this way. I'm sure we can have great health care with a single payer system as long as we don't short change it financially. Canada and the United Kingdom probably would not have long waiting lists, if in fact they do, if they hired more doctors and built more facilities. Yes, this would raise the cost of healthcare and thus taxes, but apparently our good health care in Wisconsin does not come cheap either.

The following is from an article explaining that Wisconsin health care is a bit pricey.

Looking for answers to Wisconsin's high health care costs

What's driving our higher than average health care costs? A House committee hearing may provide some answers.

The House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health is holding a hearing today in Oak Creek. Janesville Republican, Congressman Paul Ryan, says he hopes the field hearing will lead to greater health care transparency. "We need to know what things cost, and who's bad in quality, with respect to our providers," said Ryan.

The hearing follows release of a Government Accounting Office report, requested three years ago by Ryan and then congressman, and now Milwaukee mayor, Tom Barrett. Ryan says those GAO findings should suffice, to put the state's health care industry on the hot seat. "We have exceptionally high health care prices in Wisconsin," said Ryan. "Our physician prices are among the highest in the country, and our hospital prices, particularly in the Milwaukee area, are the fifth highest in the nation. I think the GAO report speaks for itself."

Executives from the Wisconsin Hospital Association and Wisconsin Medical Society are among those expected to testify, along with Mayor Barrett and the GAO's director of health care.
