Conservatively Speaking

State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) represents parts of four counties: Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Walworth. Her Senate District 28 includes New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Hales Corners, Muskego, Waterford, Big Bend and parts of Greenfield, East Troy, and Mukwonago. Senator Lazich has been in the Legislature for more than a decade. She considers herself a tireless crusader for lower taxes, reduced spending and smaller government.

Listened to your interview.  You say you "can't imagine where the cost savings are" in universal health care?  I'll help you imagine with some simple numbers from the World Health Organization

(KEY: LE=life expectancy, IM=infant mortality, PCE=per capita expenditures on health care, %GDP=%GDP spent on health care)

Japan (universal):     LE=82.5, IM=3.0, PCE=$2,662, %GDP=7.9

Australia (universal): LE=80.5, IM=5.0, PCE=$2,519, %GDP=9.5

Sweden (universal):    LE=80.5, IM=3.0, PCE=$3,149, %GDP=9.4

Canada (universal):    LE=80.5, IM=5.0, PCE=$2,669, %GDP=9.9

Germany (universal):   LE=80.0, IM=4.0, PCE=$3,204, %GDP=11.1

France (universal):    LE=79.5, IM=4.0, PCE=$2,981, %GDP=10.1

UK(universal):         LE=79.5, IM=5.0, PCE=$2,428, %GDP=8.0

US ("free market"):    LE=77.5, IM=6.0, PCE=$5,711, %GDP=15.2

The facts and reality are overwhelming.  So what do you say, why don't you join us little guys in helping to end the days of cancer being profitable for insurance and pharma CEO's and executives.  Help end the days of my medical decisions being made by an actuary in a cubicle based on whether my life-saving Crohn's treatment will be profitable enough for the shareholders.  Help end the days of the "fully insured" having to pay $10,000 out of pocket above and beyond their deductibles for medically necessary procedures.  So what do ya say?  Step outside and take a whiff of the real world.  Embrace reality.
